Girona (75,269 inh.). Roman municipality, square, fort and, given its strategic location, compulsory area of passage. Crossed by four rivers, and until modern times, completely
walled in, the city reached its greatest vigour in the late Middle Ages, when its premises were extended considerably with the incorporation of the suburbs of Sant Pere, Sant
Feliu and el Mercadal, and with its extension to the North by Pedret and to the S along the routes of Barcelona and the coast. Market centre and village with a strong cultural
tradition, it boasts one of the best monumental ensembles in Catalonia: the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, the church of Sant Nicolau, the Arab Baths, the cloister and
tower of Carlemany and the cathedral, which are excellent examples of Romanesque style.
The cathedral is famous for the dimensions of its large Gothic nave, the widest in all of medieval architecture. Its wealthy Capitular
Museum displays a its beautiful cloister and conserves the valuable Tapiz de la Creación (Tapestry of Creation), a jewel of Romanesque
art. By the cathedral, a varied collection of artistic objects from different eras and styles is displayed in the Episcopal Palace (Museu
d`Art de Girona).
This admirable ensemble is completed with stately houses, ruins of walls, gates and monasteries such as the one of Sant Domènec
and the old Jewish quarter known as el Call.

we are particularly proud of, the coloured houses overlooking the river Onyar, the cathedral, the church of Sant Feliu, the fascinating
museums, the path along town wall... they are all different places to contemplate, to quietly stroll.
We believe we have all the charm of a big city but without the throng; we have a human sized town, a town to be seen in a multitude
of facets: streets, festivals, cultural offer, restaurants, tourist services, things happening... Enjoyable all year round, if you can, come
more than just once, because this town is alive and always full of surprises.
The town, a great stage where centuries of history is on show with spectacular monuments, inviting you to stroll through the “ Barri Vell”, the old town, to visit a museum or art
gallery. Situated on a crossroads, between the sea and the mountains, from the North to the South. It has always been a meeting place where trade has generated an
incomparable offer of international and local products. Girona has an intense life, with things happening every month of the year. It is
now considered one of the main centres for cultural production and has a recognised theatrical and musical program.
And for sports, either in town or in the surroundings, there is a wide variety on offer.
THE CHURCH OF SANT FELIU | the layout of the temple is common to many Romanic churches but the construction was finished
with Gothic vaults. In the presbytery, enclosed in the lateral walls, there is a group paleochristian sarcophagus (2nd – 4th century).
THE WALL | In different parts of the Barri Vell, the old town, remains of the Roman, Carolingian or Mediaeval wall are still visible.
